PFA-Lined Valves for Water and Wastewater Treatment

Corrosion-Resistant Flow Control for Chemical Dosing, Disinfection, and Desalination

Water treatment facilities rely on aggressive chemicals to ensure safe, clean water for communities and industries. Sodium hypochlorite, chlorine, sulfuric acid, and caustic soda destroy conventional valve materials—creating maintenance burdens, contamination risks, and costly failures in critical infrastructure.

GFT9 PFA-lined valves provide the chemical resistance essential for reliable operation in municipal water treatment, industrial wastewater processing, and desalination pretreatment systems. Our products serve disinfection systems, chemical dosing stations, and corrosive media handling throughout water treatment operations.

Manufactured in Germany to DIN EN standards with documented 25+ year service life expectations in sodium hypochlorite applications, GFT9 valves deliver the reliability that water infrastructure demands.

Why Water Treatment Operations Require PFA-Lined Equipment

Water treatment combines multiple corrosive chemical challenges that exceed the capability of standard valve materials.

The Water Treatment Chemical Environment:

Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), the most common disinfectant, is highly corrosive to stainless steel, carbon steel, and many polymers. It releases chlorine gas as it degrades, attacking seals and causing catastrophic failures in conventional valves.

Chlorine gas (Cl₂) and chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) provide powerful disinfection but aggressively attack metals. Even high-alloy stainless steels experience stress corrosion cracking in chlorine environments.

pH adjustment chemicals—sulfuric acid for reduction, sodium hydroxide for elevation—require materials resistant to both acid and alkaline attack, often in the same facility.

Why PFA Excels in Water Treatment:

PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy Alkane) provides exceptional resistance to the full spectrum of water treatment chemicals:

Complete resistance to sodium hypochlorite at all concentrations—industry documentation indicates 25+ year service life in NaOCl systems.

Unaffected by chlorine gas, chlorine dioxide, and other halogen disinfectants.

Handles both sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment.

Resistant to hydrogen peroxide, ozone, and advanced oxidation chemicals.

Smooth, non-porous surface prevents biofilm formation and product contamination.

Alternative Material Consideration:

For chlorine-only service operating below 120°C, PVDF provides excellent performance at lower cost. Consult our engineering team for application-specific recommendations.

Applications Across Pharmaceutical Production

Water treatment facilities span multiple unit processes, each requiring corrosion-resistant flow control. GFT9 products serve critical functions throughout these operations.

Disinfection Systems

Chlorination and hypochlorination systems are the backbone of water treatment disinfection. PFA-lined valves handle sodium hypochlorite transfer from bulk storage, chlorine dioxide generation systems, chloramine formation for distribution system residual, and dechlorination chemical dosing. The inert PFA surface prevents the corrosion that leads to sodium hypochlorite leaks—eliminating safety hazards and environmental incidents.

Chemical Dosing Stations

Precise chemical dosing controls treatment effectiveness throughout the process. PFA-lined ball valves and control valves serve coagulant dosing (alum, ferric chloride), pH adjustment (sulfuric acid, caustic soda), fluoride addition systems, polymer and flocculant injection, and anti-scalant addition for membrane systems.

Desalination Pretreatment

Reverse osmosis desalination requires extensive pretreatment to protect membranes. PFA-lined valves handle chlorination for biofouling control, dechlorination (sodium bisulfite) before membrane contact, acid dosing for pH adjustment and scale control, and anti-scalant chemical systems. Chemical pretreatment sections experience the most aggressive chemical exposure in desalination plants.

Advanced Oxidation

Modern water treatment increasingly employs advanced oxidation processes. PFA-lined valves serve hydrogen peroxide dosing, ozone injection systems, and UV/peroxide combination treatment. PFA's resistance to powerful oxidizers makes it ideal for these emerging applications.

Sludge and Residuals Processing

Wastewater treatment generates corrosive sludge streams requiring chemical conditioning. PFA-lined valves handle polymer conditioning systems, lime stabilization, and dewatering chemical feed.
