PFA-Lined Valves for Chemical Storage, Tank Farms and Transfer
The first valve under the tank decides how safely a tank farm runs
In a tank farm, most corrosion damage happens at a few points: the outlet nozzle, the first valve below the tank, the sampling point and the loading connection. These are the points that see dilution, sediment, washing water and every change of flow.
GFT9 supplies PFA-lined valves for exactly these points — ball valves, check valves, strainers, sight glasses and sample valves from our standard ranges — and designs tank outlet, drain and sampling valves to your tank connection when a catalogue valve does not fit.
We also line tank valves for other valve makers. The same capability is available to you directly.
One lining for many media. A tank farm stores acids, caustics, hypochlorite and solvents side by side. A PFA-lined valve covers them with one design and one spare-parts stock.
Dead space is a corrosion pocket. Product that stands in a nozzle or valve cavity concentrates, crystallises or picks up moisture. Tank outlets work best with the valve seat as close to the tank as the design allows — which is why we build outlets to the actual tank connection.
Washing and dilution. Tanks, lines and hoses are washed and flushed. For acids such as sulfuric acid, dilution is what destroys carbon steel — see our page on sulfuric acid storage and terminals. A lining is not affected.
Sampling without exposure. Closed sampling takes a representative sample from the flowing product instead of a stagnant dead leg, and keeps operators away from the medium.
Transport tanks are different. Valves on rail and road tank cars are part of an approved tank design under ADR/RID and are not chosen freely. For tank and valve makers in this market we line components to their design.
Applications
Applications in Storage and Transfer
Tank outlets and drains
First isolation below the tank, drain and flushing connections — standard ball valves or custom outlet valves built to your nozzle.
Tank and line sampling
Closed sampling of stored product and of transfer lines for quality control and release.
Transfer, pumps and loading
Isolation, backflow protection and strainers on pump suction and discharge, and at loading arms and hose connections.
Visual control
Sight glasses on filling and loading lines to confirm flow and product condition.
Lining for OEM tank and valve makers
Lining of tank valves, nozzles and components to the maker's drawing, from single pieces to series.

FAQ
Questions we are often asked
Can GFT9 build a tank outlet valve to our nozzle?
Yes — tank outlet, drain and sampling valves are designed to your tank connection from a drawing, a sketch or an existing valve, and lined in PFA, from single pieces to series. Valves on rail and road tank cars are part of an approved tank design and are supplied to the tank or valve maker's specification.
PFA or PTFE lining — what is the difference?
Both are fully fluorinated plastics with almost universal chemical resistance. PTFE cannot be melted, so PTFE liners are pressed and sintered. PFA can be melted, so we transfer-mould it into the valve body: the lining is dense, anchored in the body and follows complex shapes. If your specification says "PTFE-lined", a PFA-lined valve meets the same chemical duty — ask us for a comparison for your medium.
Which documents come with the valves?
Every valve is tested to DIN EN 12266-1 and ships with EN 10204 3.1 material certificates. Pressure-bearing products are designed and manufactured to PED 2014/68/EU; the Spheron9 ball valve is additionally certified under Module A2 and type-tested to TA-Luft. On request we add an FDA conformity declaration for the PFA wetted parts and a TSE/BSE statement.
